Marilyn travels, writes columns, and uses print and digital media to share her recovery strategies to help people rebuild their lives after tragedy, crisis, abuse, setbacks, and chronic illness. After her escape from an abusive marriage, Marilyn was homeless, living in a car with her 2 children. Yet, she kept moving forward; attending college while homeless and eventually receiving a direct commission as an Army nurse officer.
While in the Army, Marilyn attended a domestic violence nursing forum where directors of domestic violence shelters shared their difficulties with and concerns for victims from religious communities. That inspired Marilyn to start donating her book of encouragement: ‘If He Doesn’t Deliver; Domestic Violence in the Religious Home’ to shelters and churches everywhere she traveled with the military.
Before long, Marilyn was speaking for multiple civic groups, universities, conventions, seminars, abuse shelters, churches, and welfare to work organizations. She has spoken at numerous conferences, including the Annual International Women’s Conference in Honolulu, Hawaii with renowned speakers such as Wendy Treat, Cheryl Prewitt-Salem (Miss America 1980, author, singer), Carolyn Savelle, Helen Burns, and Cindy Harrison (wife of Bob Harrison, founder of Christian Business Leaders International).
Marilyn was the producer and host of ‘In the Purpose Zone’ radio talk show. She was co-host of Heartlight talk show KWHE TV Hawaii, featured guest on CBN (The 700 Club), guest appearances on NBC, ABC, Watchmen Broadcasting, LeSEA television, and multiple radio outlets, and a segment on CBS Midday news for 5 years.
‘Marilyn Joyce was a regular contributor to News 12 Midday. Her monthly appearances offer insight and a wealth of knowledge, especially to the people who are rebuilding their lives and are concerned about their home-based businesses. She uses great examples to get her points across and our viewers look forward to her segments. It’s a pleasure to have her as a guest’. Tom Campbell
